Bahá’ís of Kuwait

Throughout history, Kuwait has served as a point of civilizations, cultures, and religions, owing to its unique geographical location. Over the centuries, diverse peoples made their home on this land, among them the Bahá’ís, who came to Kuwait, developed a deep connection to it, and embraced it as their homeland, a bond that has continued across generations.

The history of the Bahá’í Faith in Kuwait dates back to 1914, when one believer arrived in Kuwait from Egypt and served as a teacher in a government school. In the decades that followed, especially during the 1940s, the Bahá’í community grew as individuals and families from neighboring countries, including Iraq and Iran, chose to make Kuwait their home.

These early believers contributed to the development and prosperity of the nation through their work in fields such as engineering, education, and commerce. Inspired by the Bahá’í teachings, they sought to participate in the advancement of a civilization that is both materially and spiritually prosperous, guided by the principle that “the betterment of the world can be accomplished through pure and goodly deeds and through commendable and seemly conduct.”

Since then, the destiny of the Bahá’ís in Kuwait has become intertwined with the destiny of this land. Together, Baha'is have shared times of prosperity and adversity, stood united in the face of injustice and aggression, and worked hand in hand toward building, growth, and progress.

Today, Bahá’ís can be found in every part of the world and come from diverse races, ethnicities, cultures, tribes, and nationalities. Together with others, they strive to contribute to the betterment and well-being of their communities. As Bahá’u’lláh states:

“It is not for you to pride yourselves on love for your own selves, but rather on love for your fellow human beings. You were created for fellowship and concord, not for hatred and contention.”

In Kuwait, we work alongside individuals, organizations, and communities from all backgrounds to help foster an environment that promotes unity, coexistence, and respect, and that encourages action, learning, and consultation in the pursuit of peace and oneness.

At the international level, the Bahá’í International Community, through its offices at the United Nations, contributes to discussions and initiatives related to social and economic development, working in collaboration with governments, civil society organizations, and other stakeholders to advance the well-being of humanity.

About the Bahá’í Faith

Bahá’ís believe that divine guidance is continuous and unceasing. All religions have been revealed by God for the guidance of humanity, united in purpose and connected in their aims. The advent of Bahá’u’lláh fulfilled the promises of the previous divine religions and offers a remedy for the social challenges facing humanity today.

We live in a time when moral standards and guiding principles are being tested, and the values that sustain our communities are increasingly under strain. As humanity faces successive crises and growing uncertainty, many are searching for meaningful solutions to the problems confronting the world.

Central Figures

The Bahá’í Faith was founded upon a divine revelation entrusted by God to His two Manifestations for this age, the Báb and Bahá’u’lláh.

Principles of the Bahá’í Faith

Bahá’ís believe in one God, the Creator of the universe, who brought humanity into existence to know Him and to worship Him. Although God is known by different names in the world’s various religions, the reality to which these names refer is directed toward the one God.

Worship and Service

Worship and service are two inseparable pillars of a balanced pattern of life for any community striving toward lasting prosperity. Together, they nurture both the spiritual and material dimensions of society, each reinforcing the other in advancing the well-being and progress of the community.

The Role of Youth and Junior Youth

Regardless of their circumstances, youth and junior youth possess a desire for spiritual and intellectual growth and contributing to the advancement of humanity. They are full of incredible capacities, and helping them channel these capacities in a meaningful way is essential to any society. When neglected or misdirected, these same energies can negatively contribute to society.
