The Báb

The Bab, Siyyid Ali Muhammad, was born in Shiraz, a city south of Iran. He was known as the Báb, meaning “the Gate,” for He was indeed the gateway to a new chapter in human history. He declared his mission in 1844, and the true purpose of his Mission was to prepare the way for the coming of Baha’u’llah. The Báb heralded the dawn of a new age and called upon humanity to purify their hearts from worldly attachments so that they might recognize “Him Whom God shall make manifest.” Although His mission was brief, it was marked by profound spiritual power and left a lasting impact on the course of human history.

Describing the station of the Báb, ‘Abdu’l-Bahá wrote:

“The Báb is the Morn of Truth, whose light has shone forth and illumined all regions. He is the Herald of the Most Great Light, Bahá’u’lláh, the One promised in all the sacred books, scriptures, tablets, and revelations of the past.”
